The Sri Lanka Consulate General in Melbourne organised a successful stall at the recently held Lankan Fest 2023, an event showcasing Sri Lanka’s culture and cuisine.
The opening ceremony of the event was marked by the presence of Liberal Party Deputy Leader David Southwick, Member for Holt Cassandra Fernando, Victorian Multicultural Commission Deputy Commissioner Bwe Thay, as well as leaders of the Sri Lankan community.
The Lankan Fest was organised by Lankan Fest Inc. President Dr. Damitha De Mel at Federation Square and attracted hundreds of visitors who are eager to experience Sri Lankan cuisine, crafts and music.
The Consulate stall was colourfully highlighted with a stunning media backdrop, showcasing Sri Lanka’s tourism hotspots, and was also adorned with high quality photos featuring Sri Lanka’s wildlife, scenic places, and city life. The stall also showcased various Sri Lankan export-ready products, including tea, spices, wellness products, processed foods, and beverages.
During his speech at the opening ceremony, Consul General of Sri Lanka in Melbourne Sandith Samarasinghe expressed appreciation to Dr. Damith De Mel and his team, for organising such an important event to promote Sri Lanka. Highlighting Sri Lanka’s economic resurgence after the difficulties the country had faced, the Consul General also extended his appreciation to the Sri Lankan community in Victoria, and Melbourne in particular, for their support to Sri Lanka’s growth, and for continuing to positively highlight the country in Australia.
