Exhibition Tour by a Visitor Educator
Gallery Talk – ‘Making a Second Volume’
The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Sri Lanka (MMCA Sri Lanka) has announced an exciting lineup of public programs for May 2024. The programs offer visitors of all ages the opportunity to engage with art, culture, and heritage innovatively. Join these events and discover the work of Sri Lanka’s first woman architect Minnette De Silva (1918–1998), and the museum’s current exhibition ‘88 Acres: The Watapuluwa Housing Scheme by Minnette De Silva’.
Exhibition tours will be conducted on Sundays 12, 19, and 26 May, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. led by the Museum’s Visitor Educators. What’s more, on 18 May from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. there will be an exhibition tour conducted in Tamil.
Children of all ages and their families are invited to join contemporary artists Irushi Tennekoon, Sumedha Kelegama, and Sumudu Athukorala for a specially curated tour of ‘88 Acres’. This unique opportunity for families to explore the exhibition together will be held on 18 May Saturday, from 3–5 p.m.
Join the Reading Group titled ‘Imagining Minnette’ with Irushi Tennekoon, artist and educator and Ruhanie Perera, lecturer in English at the University of Colombo on 31 May Friday from 6–7:30 p.m. This thought-provoking discussion on Minnette De Silva’s practice of self-documenting will delve into selected texts, including excerpts from ‘Is this an architectural documentary?’ (2023) by Tennekoon, Kelegama, and Athukorala, and ‘Plastic Emotions’ by Shiromi Pinto.
All public programs at the MMCA Sri Lanka are free, and prior registration on the Museum’s Eventbrite page is required.
