Colombo has been excited about Naomi Rajaratnam being back in the dance circuit. Her past productions, popularly known as ‘With my Feet’, have been catering to packed audiences since 2000. And now after a nearly 10-year absence she’s back with ‘Resurrection’.
The title of the production has many people wondering. Musings on if they are to expect a solemn or serious line up of items. But watching a quick rehearsal assures one of something quite to the contrary. The choreographer and cast are most definitely serious about their love for dance. In fact two of the dancers, former students of Naomi, have flown down from their homes in the UK to be here for rehearsals and the show.
But there is nothing solemn about ‘Resurrection’. Each item brings the specific genre of dance alive in a creative continuity of movement which is quintessentially Naomi. The colours and fabrics of the costumes really do create an explosion of beauty in line with the energy that the dancers themselves bring. It’s safe to say that Naomi has outdone herself, and it is her audience that will benefit from this fact the most.
‘Resurrection’ opens at the Bishops College Auditorium on 26 and 27 August, showcasing the dance forms from Latin, Ballroom, fusion, Bollywood, contemporary and hiphop. Tickets are available at the Bishops College Auditorium Office and are priced at Rs. 1,500, Rs. 2,000, Rs. 3,000, Rs. 4,000 and Rs. 750 for balcony.
