Rotaract District 3220 Sri Lanka and Maldives is the local counterpart of the internationally renowned youth service organisation Rotaract, which functions under Rotary International.
Rotaract functions under the motto self-development – Fellowship through Service and is currently an unbeatable phenomenon involving 290,000 Rotaractors representing approximately 9,500 Rotaract Clubs based in 177 countries all over the world.
The organisation is well known for its work related to community service, club service, international service and professional development while engaging in activities dedicated to fellowship and networking among members between ages 18 and 30.
This year, Rotaract celebrated 50 years of service all around the world, and Rotaract District 3220 Sri Lanka and Maldives held the 27th Rotaract District Conference, this year’s instalment of the annual gathering of Rotaractors from the District that promotes professionalism and fellowship.
The District Conference is one the most anticipated events in the Rotaract Calendar, and for the year 2017-18 it was held on 5 May at the Lotus Room of the Bandaranaike Memorial International Convention Hall.
The expected participation of 500 Rotaractors were educated on the themes of Innovation, Empowerment and Passion with various platforms such as discussion forums, special guest talks by successful entrepreneurs Dilith Jayaweera of TriAd Solutions and Yasas Hewage, cyclist and founder of wr00m.
Yasas Sewage educated the audience of enthusiastic audience of his inspiring journey towards success as a cyclist while managing a daytime job, while Dilith Jayaweera focused on his educational endeavors as well as the initial idea that contributed towards the creation of Derana TV.
The 27th Rotaract District Conference also witnessed the election of the District Rotaract Representative for the years of 2019-20, thus being a decisive point about the future of the movement locally. Rtr. Krishan Balaji of the Rotaract Club of Colombo Uptown was elected as the DRRN after a tough but worthwhile competition against Rtr. PP Aaqeel Jiffry of the Rotaract Club of Achievers Lanka Business School.
The event also allowed the current District Rotaract Representative Rtr. PP Anuradha Senanayake to voice her satisfaction about the projects carried out by the District and the Rotaract Clubs that are testimony to the hard work and dedication of the Rotaractors of Rotaract Sri Lanka and Maldives.
The Chief Guest for the event the current Governor of Rotaray International District 3220 Sri Lanka and Maldives, Rtn. PHF Ven. Bandagiriye Somawansa Thero also expressed his compliments towards Rtr. Anuradha and her Committee for their undying commitment towards the movement. District Rotaract Representative Elect, Rtr. PP Amjad Yoosuf who will be leading the movement in 2018-19 discussed his plans alongside best wishes from the Governor Elect for Rotary International District 3220 Sri Lanka and Maldives, Rtn. PHF Dushan Soza.
The Conference concluded with an after-party which took the form of a Rotaract Ball, ‘Rotaract Red Carpet Affair,’ which was held on 6 May at Eagles Lakeside Banquet Hall.
The 27th Rotaract District Conference and Rotaract Red Carpet Affair were organised by the Professional Development team of the Rotaract District Committee led by Rtr. PP Amitha Dissanayake and Rtr. Kanisha Wijayasekera alongside the host Clubs Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa, Rotaract Club of Panadura, Rotaract Club of Colombo West and Rotaract Club of Faculty of Science, University of Colombo.
