The Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo, in collaboration with the Streets of Colombo (SOC) photography collective, will host an exhibition by world-renowned street photographer Tavepong Pratoomwong titled ‘GOOD DAY BAD DAY BUT EVERYDAY’.
The exhibition will run from 20 to 27 October at Siam Nivasa, the Royal Thai Embassy’s multifunctional cultural and exhibition centre in Colombo. This captivating exhibition celebrates the beauty, complexity, and spontaneity of everyday life through the lens of one of the most acclaimed street photographers of our time.
The Royal Thai Embassy continues to play a key role in promoting the arts in Sri Lanka while fostering mutual understanding and friendship between Thailand and Sri Lanka. Reflecting on the exhibition’s significance, the Embassy stated: “Art is a universal language, and Tavepong’s work is an honest, humorous reflection of life on the streets which speaks directly to the heart. We are immensely pleased to co-host this event with the Streets of Colombo and are confident that Tavepong’s visit to Sri Lanka will create a wonderful opportunity for local photographers to gain a share of his vast knowledge and experience.”
SOC Founder Johann Latiff expressed his sentiments about the collaboration, saying: “We are thrilled to be the co-hosts of this event and to meet Tavepong, whose work we have long admired. Through this exhibition, we hope to inspire more photographers in Sri Lanka to take up street photography and raise awareness of this particular genre of photography.”
GOOD DAY BAD DAY BUT EVERYDAY is a collection of Tavepong Pratoomwong’s most outstanding street photographs, taken during his daily walks since 2014. His work captures the extraordinary within the ordinary, highlighting the unpredictable and often surreal moments that occur in the stream of everyday life. A limited quantity of the hardcover photo book which carries the same title is also available for sale at the exhibition and includes a series of award-winning photographs, offering visitors a chance to further immerse themselves in Tavepong’s work.
Tavepong has dedicated himself to street photography, capturing fleeting moments that tell powerful stories. His work has been exhibited across Asia, North America, and Europe, and he has won numerous prestigious awards. These include 1st place prizes at the Miami Street Photography Festival and the Los Angeles Center of Photography. In 2015 he was also selected as one of the 20 Most Influential Street Photographers in the world by Streethunters.net.
