Shangri-La Colombo recently welcomed culinary virtuoso, One Starred Michelin Chef Daniel Cheung, Executive Chinese Chef at Shangri-La Singapore to host four exclusive dining events where guests were privy to age old traditions of authentic Chinese cuisine.
The four-course dining experience unfolded at Shang Palace and was the sixth edition of Shangri-La Colombo’s Culinary Collaborations series, a curated F&B offering that aims to introduce novel dining experiences to the city. Diners experienced a range of exquisite signature dishes that showcased Chef Daniel’s culinary technique, creative style and his mastery of the three complexities of Cantonese food - Temperature, Taste, and Fragrance.
Shangri-La Colombo General Manager Herve Duboscq said: “An Evening with Chef Daniel Cheung was a part of our Culinary Collaborations series which aims to showcase personalities in the culinary arts who embody Shangri-La’s values of setting new benchmarks, pioneering new horizons and fostering creativity and excellence through inspired dining experiences. We are thrilled that Chef Daniel brought the world of Michelin dining to our guests here in the heart of Colombo. It was also a wonderful opportunity for our young chefs to interact with Chef Daniel, learn from him and in turn share knowledge about cooking techniques and ingredients found here in Sri Lanka.”
Chef Daniel is one of the most respected and visible Cantonese chefs in Asia. He has perfected the art of classic Cantonese cuisine prepared with sophistication and presented with contemporary flair. With 38 illustrious years in top-level traditional Cantonese cuisine, his most recent culinary roles are at one-Michelin starred Shang Palace (2022) at Shangri-La Singapore and at one-Michelin starred Shang Palace Kowloon, Hong Kong. He is the recipient of several highly acclaimed accolades such as the Distinction Gold Award for Appetisers at the 10th Asian Culinary Exchange 2016 and Gold with Distinction Award at Gourmet Master Chef 2014. “It was wonderful to work closely with Shangri-La Singapore’s Executive Chinese Chef Daniel Cheung. Among the many highlights was visiting local markets that enabled him to conceptualise the menu using locally sourced ingredients to marry flavours that are staples in his repertoire in Singapore.” stated Shangri-La Colombo Executive Chef Patrick Buttgereit.
