The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai organised a 10-day-long Sri Lankan Food Festival from 19-28 April in collaboration with Courtyard by Marriott in Andheri, Mumbai.
The food festival featured authentic Sri Lankan dishes prepared by Chef Chanaka Denuwan who was flown down to Mumbai from Marriott, Weligama Bay. The food festival had a wide range of authentic Sri Lankan dishes and a live Kottu station, which was a crowd-pleaser through the week.
The opening ceremony of the food festival featured traditional Sri Lankan dance performances organised by Marriott. The opening night was attended by Consul (Commercial) Shirani Ariyarathne, staff of the Mission, members of SriLankan Airlines, prominent food bloggers and travel writers from Mumbai.
The venue was decorated with colourful traditional masks provided by the Consulate General and SriLankan Airlines. Sri Lankan Tourism and MICE promotion standees were displayed all over the venue. In addition, there was also a digital standee at the lobby of Marriott, where tourism promotion and Ceylon spice extracts videos were displayed. A separate counter was arranged to offer Ceylon tea to the guests infused with Ceylon spice extract provided by Ceylon Agbiz Ltd. Moreover, the service staff at the restaurant were adorned in batik sarees, shirts and sarongs provided by the Consulate General.
The Consul General along with the Consul (Commercial), a few staff members of the Mission and the members of SriLankan Airlines attended the closing ceremony of the Food Festival on 28 April. The closing ceremony had a raffle draw for the guests, with two winners getting return air tickets for Mumbai-Colombo-Mumbai sector, sponsored by the SriLankan Airlines.
