In celebration of World Pizza Day on 9 February, TukTuk Wine & Dine multi-cuisine restaurant, located in 52 St. Joseph Mawatha, Negombo, made culinary history by creating the largest pizza in Sri Lanka.
Executive Chef Duminda Wanigasekera spearheaded the initiative, showcasing the restaurant’s culinary prowess and commitment to innovation.
The colossal pizza, measuring an impressive 50 inches in length and weighing a hefty 12 kilos, was a sight to behold. To craft this culinary masterpiece, a delectable tomato congress was concocted, featuring a tantalising mix of mozzarella cheese, chicken, sausage, bell peppers, olive oil and onions in four different colours and flavours.
Despite its size, the pizza was baked in just eight minutes, showcasing the culinary expertise of the hotel’s kitchen team.
The event drew over 100 pizza enthusiasts to the restaurant premises, eager to savour a slice of this record-breaking creation. A total of 25 tables were prepared, allowing groups of eight people to enjoy the pizza simultaneously to accommodate the enthusiastic crowd. Each guest was treated to generous slices of the mouth-watering pizza, indulging in its flavourful toppings and crispy crust.
This wasn’t the first time TukTuk Wine & Dine Restaurant has made headlines with its pizza-making prowess. In 2021, the hotel marked World Pizza Day by crafting a 40-inch-long pizza, setting the stage for this year’s even grander achievement.
