Weddings by Shero Bringing exquisite dreams to life

Combining many intricate elements to present picture-perfect weddings, Weddings by Shero headed by Shero Meezan is all about showcasing perfection, light and life. Shero is the strength behind the service and everything she does embodies this spirit of work in creating dreams, resulting in magical days that will always be remembered. Whilst Weddings by Shero is a new venture, Shero is not new to creating dreams – she also heads Events by Shero, which is known for its larger-than-life luxury birthday parties. Following are excerpts of an interview with this wonder woman:

Q: You recently entered the weddings arena via Weddings by Shero, expanding from your initial offerings of kids’ parties via Events by Shero. What made you move into weddings?

A: Having handled a variety of events from children’s birthday parties, corporate events and even weddings under the banner of Events by Shero we wanted to distinguish ‘Events by Shero,’ which is known for its larger-than-life luxury birthday parties, from the more subtle nature of weddings and give it more of an adult identity. 

Till now we had not actively sought to get in to the wedding business but only handled weddings where customers came to us with the confidence that we could create the extraordinary based on our previous portfolio. 

Having been a part of the weddings of a few truly special couples to whom we are very thankful for the trust they placed in us, we now feel like the time is right for us to have a separate arm of the business dedicated to weddings in order to allow us to efficiently handle the bespoke requirements of weddings

So whilst Weddings by Shero is a new venture, Shero is not new to creating dreams!

Q: You’ve set a high standard with your kids’ parties. What can people expect from you via Weddings by Shero?

A: We are known for creating larger-than-life, luxury events. With our foray in to the wedding business, expect us to bring the same daring, creativity, pizazz and panache with plenty of imagination to the wedding industry where we hope to create the most magical, fairy-tale weddings beyond your imagination. We are up for a challenge and want to add something different to the wedding scene in Sri-Lanka.

While Events by Shero brings to life the dreams and imaginations of little girls and boys, we know that there’s still a little bit of that little boy or girl inside each one of our clients and on their special day Weddings by Shero will make their dreams a reality too.

Q: How do you prepare for a wedding – what is the work that goes into meeting client expectations?

A: It’s a secret! We inject a bit of magic, add a lot of planning, sprinkle it with hard work and ensure that we always deliver above and beyond our clients’ expectations. Often clients come to us with ideas already of what they want – however we like to provide them with that and more so we unlock their imagination. 

We understand that culturally and personally this is the most important day of their life thus far and we want to ensure that they feel special and are able to trust and depend on us. This is the key to any good relationship. Getting to know your client makes it easier to meet their expectations.

Thereafter it’s months and months of hard work putting all the pieces of the jigsaw together, the bridal the makeup artist, and the table centrepieces to the poruwa, the floral arrangements, the music and the wedding cake – every little detail needs to come together to make the perfect setting.

All those months of hard work amount to nothing, if you drop the ball on the big day itself! Holding everything together amidst the chaos and the action of the wedding day, coordinating with all the different suppliers and stakeholders to finally make sure everything comes together just as planned is probably as important as anything else.

Q: What makes Weddings by Shero different from the other event planners in the market?

A: At both Weddings by Shero and Events by Shero, we create dreams! We bring our clients’ wildest fantasies to life, in fact it’s larger, crazier and wilder than they ever imagined. This is possible because of the passion we have in what we do, every time we work on something for our client it’s not just a job, it’s an opportunity for us to express our creativity, and that passion for being able to express ourselves makes us go that extra mile, the hardest client to satisfy in our organisation is Shero!

Q: What’s your idea of a dream wedding here in Sri Lanka in terms of theme and location?

A: That’s a hard one! How do I think of one particular theme or location? I think first of all it depends on the couple, the concept of a dream wedding would be entirely different for two different couples. It is our job to figure that out and make it a reality. In fact I would say every wedding we have created is a dream wedding because we end up creating the wedding of their dreams for our clients!

In terms of location, being in a naturally beautiful country like Sri Lanka we are blessed in terms of a wide range of possible locations to pick from, we are in fact spoilt for choice I think. Our beautiful sandy beaches, the lush greenery of the wet zone, the rolling hills and mist covered hills of the upcountry could all make for the most amazing setting of your dreams, it’s all about having the imagination and the eye to create that dream.

Q: Tell us about your team at Weddings by Shero?

A: We have a team of five young, energetic and creative people here at Weddings by Shero and without them we wouldn’t be able to make dreams happen. It takes a very cohesive, dedicated and hardworking team to be able to successfully pull off the kind of weddings and events we create. Working in this industry one has to be able to deal with working within very short timeframes, changes at short notice and handling things on the fly, this can be very stressful unless everyone is on the same page and able to trust one another’s judgement. The work we create I think speaks volumes of the ability of the team we have here at Weddings by Shero, and words just won’t do justice to the hard work and effort put in at every one of those occasions.

Q: What is your favourite part of the job?

A: At both Events by Shero and Weddings by Shero every new client is an opportunity for us to express our creativity to push ourselves a little harder and to do something new, it’s the passion in us to create something magical that drives us.

So there’s no better feeling than when our clients get to experience the end result of all the work we put in, be it the happy couple for whom we created the fairy tale wedding or the little girl for whom we created the birthday of her dreams, the best part of our job hands-down is seeing the joy and happiness we bring to our clients no matter how young or old they are. And guess what, I get to do it all over again in a few days or in a week or so!
