In aid of Unity Mission Trust
Musical Maestro Rukshan Perera is back lighting up the stage with ‘A Concert for Reconciliation: Rukshan Perera Live in Concert IV’ at the Bishops College Auditorium on Sunday, 19 January at 7 p.m.
Performing his original compositions that have gained him much acclaims from fans all over the world, Rukshan promises to wow the audience with old favourites such as ‘What Time Is It’, ‘Sri Lankan Blues’ and Acapella compositions’ and will feature many new exciting compositions.
The De Lanerolle Brothers will sing Rukshan’s brand new composition ‘Meaning Of Justice,’ a tribute to Nelson Mandela, the late South African champion of reconciliation, with Choro Calibre doing a Gospel style chorus to African drums in the background.
Umaria together with the Little Sopranos will sing in harmony Rukshan’s tribute to young Pakistani education activist Malala Yousafzai titled ‘I Am Malala’. Rajitha’s dynamic performance will come alive with two of Rukshan’s interesting compositions with the orchestration done by Colombo Brass Ensemble together with Sureka Amerasinghe (flute) and Ruwan (violin).
If you haven’t seen them yet, this will be your chance and certainly will be a treat to watch the 12-year-old award winning dynamic duo Sarith and Surith getting together with Rukshan and Derek Wickramanayake for some surprise acts on stage!
The tributes and another two new reconciliation songs will set the stage for the cause that the concert is in aid of – one that is very near and dear to Rukshan’s heart – the work of Unity Mission Trust, where he is the Musical Director and a dedicated volunteer.
The Unity Mission Trust has been in existence since May 2009 and is a non-profit Trust that is dedicated to fostering unity, integration, healing and reconciliation between the teenagers and young adults in the Wanni area and their peers from all over Sri Lanka.
The Unity Mission Trust is governed by a Board of Trustees, all of whom are recognised professionals and counts over 4,000 students who are now linked together in a network of Unity. The Unity Team is currently structured as a voluntary organisation with a pool of around 60 volunteers available to support ground level projects.
In addition the Unity Mission Trust Team also has in affiliation a group of senior consultants, most of who are retired Education Officers who have volunteered their time towards the work of Unity Mission Trust. More information can be obtained from their website – www.unitymission.lk.
The proceeds from the concert proceeds of the concert will be utilised to finance Unity Camp 7 at Tangalle and the education scholarship scheme of the Trust.
Tickets are priced at Rs. 3,000, Rs. 2,000, Rs. 1,000 (reserved seating) and Rs. 750, Rs. 500 (unreserved seating) and can be purchased at Park Street Mews and Commons.
