Jetwing Hotels and Srilankainstyle present ‘Kumar Pereira Live!’

In 2011, he made history. He made history in a country not his own, and created a legacy of pride. Sri Lankan born Kumar Pereira, a designer by profession became the oldest competitor (at a sprightly 62 years of age!) to ever make it into the Top 12 of one of the most famous cookery shows on TV worldwide – MasterChef Australia. Competing against 50 immensely talented individuals was no easy task at all, with Kumar losing 10kg during the course of the competition!

In 2013, to kick off the New Year Jetwing Hotels and SriLankaInStyle, the island’s leading experiential travel specialists present a Culinary Tour of Sri Lanka with Kumar. The tour will take a group of 12 travellers on an incredible journey designed to showcase the fine art of cooking.

Kumar will be cooking up a storm at Jetwing Lagoon, Jetwing Vil Uyana, Jetwing St. Andrew’s and Jetwing Lighthouse, with an evening of culinary perfection at each property. Each event will follow the same format, beginning with delicious cocktails and then a live demonstration of a signature dish by Kumar after which a four course dinner will be served. The evening will draw to a close with the opportunity to meet a true MasterChef legend!

In the case of Jetwing St. Andrew’s, the cool climate of the highlands lends itself well to a different event, a modern take on a traditional English High Tea. Passes for each of the events will be made available online, as well as on location. More details are to follow, so stay tuned!

“Being part of an event that brings Kumar back to Sri Lanka is a novel way to start the New Year, and complements Jetwing’s commitment to the culinary arts. We are very excited, and these events are sure to entertain and provide guests the opportunity to pick up some tips to make their own dishes at home taste even better. Partnering with SriLankaInStyle and being a part of such a groundbreaking tour is certainly an honour for us,” said Ishanth Gunewardene, Head of Sales and Marketing for Jetwing Hotels.

‘A Culinary Tour with Kumar’ will take place from 15 to 25 January 2013, and feature Kumar cooking live at Jetwing Lagoon (Negombo), Jetwing Vil Uyana (Sigiriya), Jetwing St. Andrew’s (Nuwara Eliya) and Jetwing Lighthouse (Galle).
