A feast with celebrity restaurateur Peter Kuruvita

Australian-Sri Lankan celebrity restaurateur and media personality, Peter Kuruvita delighted his Sri Lankan fans recently after cooking several of his famous dishes for an exclusive dinner held at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo’s fine dining restaurant, The Dining Room on 3 May. Peter has passionately promoted the culinary diversity of his Sri Lankan heritage around the world and is renowned for his unique spin on contemporary Australian/Sri Lankan fusion cuisine at his award-winning fine dining restaurant ‘Flying Fish’ and television program ‘My Sri Lanka with Peter Kuruvita’. Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo, a property of the Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts Chain, graciously welcomed Peter into the hotel’s kitchens as he and the hotel’s skilled chefs prepared a feast for diners. Items like fresh celery topped with blue cheese, pork with chilli and tamarind vinaigrette, stuffed ancho chillies, crab and sweet potato soup and Ceylon Tea prawns were just some of the delicious appetisers that started the night off in style. These were followed by a sumptuous selection of mains such as the chicken lemongrass curry, butter naans and chicken tikka, lentils tempered, Sri Lankan snapper curry, pumpkin curry and savoury rice and much more that kept diners in a blissful haze of pleasure. A number of Australian wines were also promoted during the evening, much to the delight of wine connoisseurs attending the dinner. Guests of Honour at the event were Australian High Commissioner Robyn Mudie and her husband, Jonathan Phelps, Michelin starred Chef Alfred Prasad – Director Cuisine and Executive Chef at Tamarind Collection and Queen of Curries Felicia Sorenson. Ecstatic at the prospect of meeting Peter, the gourmet dinner was a sold out success and had fans eagerly lining up to pose with the gracious and charismatic chef.
