As Sri Lankans celebrated Mother’s Day on 14 May, honouring the mothers, motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers in society, Mount Lavinia Hotel also joined in this celebration.
“However, we wanted to go beyond the usual traditional celebrations and do something different this year,” said Bazeer Cassim, Group General Manager of Mount Lavinia Hotel.
This year Mount Lavinia Hotel organised a fun-filled afternoon for mothers from the Janadara Elders Home in Moratuwa and the SOS Village in Piliyandala to step out of their usual surroundings and spend time at the hotel.
“We wanted to give a chance to these mothers to have a different experience. It’s not often that they get the opportunity to leave the premises. We not only wanted to ensure that this Mother’s Day is a special and memorable one for them, we also want to ensure that our relationship and what we can do for these mothers is not just limited to a day, and will continue beyond Mother’s Day,” added Cassim.
The programme included a special lunch and entertainment acts, including some acts from the mothers who participated. Mount Lavinia Hotel’s very own Deshabandu Chef Publis Silva and veteran actors from the popular Sri Lankan teledrama ‘Kopi Kade’ also joined the celebrations.
Mothers from both the Janadara Elders Home in Moratuwa and SOS Children’s Village in Piliyandala expressed their gratitude for an afternoon filled with laughter.
SOS Children’s Villages Sri Lanka Fund Development and Communication Deputy Director Devini Tissaaratchy said: “Thank you very much for the wonderful gift you have given our mothers.”
