It was heartening to hear that a statue (head) of renowned Sri Lankan epigraphist and archaeologist Dr. Senerath Paranavitana (1896-1972) has been erected at the premises of the head office of the Department of Archaeology in Colombo. He retired as Commissioner of Archaeology in 1956 (56 years ago) and he passed away in 1972 (40). A life-size statue has been erected opposite the Sigiriya Rock on the roadway to the museum.
