‘An Original Christmas’ with Expograhic bookstore and Power of Play

Expograhic bookstore will celebrate this Christmas with a series of drama workshops and a public performance in collaboration with Power of Play Ltd.

Workshops will be held from 17-19 December from 9 a.m.-12 noon, 20 December from 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. and the performance will be held on 21 December from 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. at Expographic bookstore (455, Pannipitiya Road, Pelawatta, Battaramulla.) The aim of this workshop series is to expose children and youth to the mechanisms of a professional production process and examine how an idea is transformed in to a complete stage performance.

This is a unique opportunity to understand the multiple aspects of a stage play and participants will be taught the basics of play-writing, acting, directing, designing, movement, music and puppetry to create minimalistic yet unforgettable performances based on their own imaginations. The finale of the workshops will be a public Christmas performance to complete the experience of a professional production process. Workshops and performance will be facilitated by Founder and Artistic Director of Power of Play Sulochana Dissanayake, who is a graduate of Bates College, USA in Economics and Theater ’09 and a Watson Fellow ’09/’10 (Thomas J. Watson Foundation, USA). She studied contemporary theater/puppetry in South Africa/Indonesia and is currently promoting theater as a dynamic tool of communication in educational institutes/corporate organisations while producing original works.
