Sri Lanka’s Arab Union, which represents a prominent Muslim Group in Sri Lanka, will host on evening of entertainment of colourful performance and buffet dinner at the Ranmuthu Hotel today, 26 November 2011, from 7 p.m. onwards.
A part of the proceeds from this event will be used to fund scholarships of needy students in association with the Zahira College Old Boy’s Union of ’60s. The event is sponsored by Phoenix, Uniwash Laundry Service, Steel Blue, Supun Super Centre and Artco Global along with several well wishers.
The Arab Union represents the descendants of “Araby” Ibrahim from Zabeedi, Yemen – one of the many Arab families to settle down in Sri Lanka. He was married to Moomin Abbas from surat in India, daughter of Abbas Mowlana and Sheik Muhammad Navuda Mathunga Natchia. He had four sons and one daughter lady Ameena was married to Sir Razik Fareed.
The family and its descendants owned and carried on many businesses in Colombo and estates in Negombo and Avisawella. Today, this family’s descendants boast its fourth and fifth generations, who are organising this event.
