Basil opens SLFPA night food market

Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa opened Sri Lanka Food Processors Association the night food market (Hawker Street) at Diyatha Uyana, Battaramulla on 8 April.

Defence and Urban Development Ministry Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa also attended the event as a guest of honour.  The food market conducted by the Sri Lanka Food Processors Association (SLFPA) provided the stage for the manufacturers of all reputed brands of over 50 to offer their products and services at discounted prices to the consumers in order to support the Government’s efforts to bring down the ever rising cost of living.

Basil Rajapaksa examined the products on display and discussed their quality and manufacturing process with SLFPA representatives. The SLFPA is the foremost representative body for the food processing sector in the country and is responsible for developing a comparatively advantageous environment for the food processing industry.

The association also endeavours to benchmark best practices and to motivate the local industry to achieve Global Standards. In the light of the remarkable 14% annual growth in the Sri Lanka food industry, the SLFPA is continuously aiming to provide the membership the opportunities to develop their business and gain profits through active participation in national level activity while interacting direct with the consumers.
