Sri Lanka’s oldest and most respected restaurant, Chinese Dragon Café, recently completed a major upgrade of its service offering to customers, including new dishes and favourites, a dynamic online ordering platform and an ongoing facelift to its existing branches, with the intention of taking the brand closer to the people and what they love.

Operating under new ownership and management, Chinese Dragon Café will focus on three main service areas – quality, quantity and service, which were found to be lacking – and the new management has taken immediate steps to improve its offering in these three key areas.

In addition to this the restaurant has also revamped its website to offer a host of interactive features to online customers, while increasing its focus on outdoor catering and pledging to improve its speed of delivery. The management is also currently in the process of expanding to several new locations.

“Since the new ownership and management came in we have been closely monitoring our operations and have identified several key areas of improvement which we want to focus on immediately. Chinese Dragon Café has a rich history and the distinction of being one of the country’s most trusted family restaurants which is a tremendous advantage for us, one that we intend to fully utilise going forward,” stated a Director of Chinese Dragon Café.

In terms of its food offering, Chinese Dragon Café has now introduced Dragon Lunch and Dinner packets in small and regular sizes, replacing the earlier executive packs. The new Dragon packs include new items such as hot butter cuttlefish, in addition to all the other existing meat and seafood items. The new Dragon packs also feature nasi goreng rice in addition to the regular fried rice. All dragon packs come with a choice of five different sauces, hot garlic, pepper, devilled, chilli or golden sauce.

In addition to this the restaurant has also reintroduced some old soup favourites including sweet corn with chicken and egg, sweet corn with crab and egg and also hot and sour prawn and hot and sour chicken due to popular demand.

Chinese Dragon Café is the pioneer of hot butter dishes in Sri Lanka, which is now a firm favourite among food lovers across the island. Their new menu features several hot butter items including the ever popular cuttlefish, prawn, mushroom, cuttlefish rings, baby corn and soya. Other menu items include several styles of devilled dishes, classic dry red chilli dishes, traditional sweet and sour items, hot roasted garlic dishes as well as a range of dishes in different sauces such as lemon sauce or a spicy red sauce. Embracing the digital age, Chinese Dragon Café has also made several upgrades to their website to facilitate quicker and easier online ordering. Upon logging into their website at www.chinesedragoncafe.com, customers can register for online ordering by filling in a few personal details and then simply click the items they would like to order and each item will be added into their cart. Customers would then only have to provide their credit card details (or pay on delivery) and save their order.

The restaurant will then call back to confirm the order and the food will then be delivered to the customer’s door. The customers’ information can be saved on the website to speed up repeat orders in the future. Chinese Dragon Café is also present on Facebook and uses its page to interact with the 60,000 strong fan base.

Established in 1942, Chinese Dragon Café has pioneered Chinese cuisine in Sri Lanka, offering authentic food refined specifically to suit the local palate. There are three restaurants located in Bambalapitiya, Mt. Lavinia and Rajagiriya and a new restaurant will be opened in the immediate future. The current restaurants can seat up to 300 customers in a homely, family dining type atmosphere that promises great value and wholesome food with good taste.
