The Sri Lanka Animal Protection Association (SLAPA) will hold their annual Christmas sale at the DBU on 16 December. This year too, funds raised will be utilised for sterilising of stray cats and dogs, treatment of accident victims, vaccinating against rabies, boarding and kenneling of abandoned animals and educational programs.

In addition, SLAPA also rescues cattle from slaughter, while they are currently engaged in court action against those who illegally transport and slaughter cattle. Confiscated cattle are taken to a safe sanctuary where they are fed, watered and are given veterinary treatment. SLAPA is also endeavouring to update the present archaic laws vis a vis animal cruelty, particularly the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Ordinance and the Butchers Ordinance.

The activities of the association are manifold and it is hoped that the sale will bring in the required funds. Food, clothing, Christmas décor, household goods, and many other seasonal specials will be on sale.

SLAPA would like to see as many well wishers, friends and the general public patronising the sale, thus helping them to make life more tolerable for man’s best friend. Those wishing to donate banners and take stalls could contact Lorraine Bibile on 112589673 or Sharmini Ratnayake on 0777354441.
