Coca-Cola Beverages Sri Lanka supports World Earth Hour

Coca-Cola Beverages Sri Lanka Limited will support the World Earth Hour 2012 which takes place at 8.30p.m. on 31 March.

The company will take a series of steps to support the occasion. On the day the plant will be switching off the main building exterior lights and signage spots, reducing lighting at the plant to ensure minimal energy usage and switching off and unplugging all non essential equipment. In addition, the company has also appealed to its staff and business partners, requesting that they too join in the effort by switching off all non essential lights in their homes and at their places of business.  

As a long term initiative to cut down on energy usage the company has taken steps to maximise on day light use by changing roofing sheets to transparent sheets, move to a centralized chilling system, which helps to reduce the energy wastage that occurs when individual units are run and change all existing high wattage lamps to low energy consuming lighting. Coca-Cola Beverages Sri Lanka is also making plans to move to cold sugar dissolving to optimize the energy use for sugar dissolving.

Coca-Cola Beverages Sri Lanka Limited Country Manager Saumindra Bhattacharya said, “We are very proud to be a part of the world wide Earth Hour initiative this year.

As a company, Coca-Cola is well known for its global commitment to responsible citizenship which includes the conservation of natural resources and sustainability.”

Elaborating on the necessity for long term dedication to the cause, he said, “Apart from what we have committed to do on the day, during the appointed hour, we also strongly support the idea that each and every one of us must go ‘beyond the hour’ by making energy and eco saving measures part and parcel of our everyday lives. We want everyone to ask themselves one vital question ‘What can I do to change my practices so that I can help make a positive impact and benefit our planet?’”

Country Manager Abhishek Jugran, “Every year The Coca-Cola Company commits resources to celebrate World Earth Hour and leverages its presence across the world to raise awareness on Climate Change. We are happy to be leading this effort in Sri Lanka this year as well.”

Earth Hour engages millions of people from all over the world to take positive action for the environment and celebrate their commitment by switching off their lights for one designated hour. Earth Hour 2012 will also highlight how people, businesses and governments world-wide are working to reduce their carbon footprint. At exactly 8:30p.m. on Saturday 31 March, hundreds of millions of people all over the world will turn off their lights for Earth Hour in a global celebration of their commitment to protect the one thing that unites us all – the planet.
