Colombo Design Market (CDM) will celebrate two years of supporting Sri Lanka’s emerging designers and creatives with their 7th Edition Market from 12 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday, 4 December at the centrally-located Colombo Public Library lawn.
The well-known CDM supports a community of creatives to develop Sri Lanka’s identity through art and design. Through quarterly markets and events, CDM brings together creative startups, budding musicians, filmmakers and photographers, and host talks, workshops and interactive installations to provide a refreshing experience of design and creativity in Sri Lanka.
A footwear startup, DODO, launched with CDM in early 2015 and has seen continuous success since. As co-founder, Bernard Arunalandam, says: “Our brand has grown significantly - and not just in terms of money but people know about our brand too. People were talking about us through Colombo Design Market and that’s how we got an exclusive line at PR (Paradise Road), and we just had someone from Australia looking for DODO footwear. CDM has been a great way to meet people and connect with the right kind of customers who genuinely want to try something different. The crowd that comes for CDM know the value of a good product, are socially responsible and are willing to pay for it.”
The upcoming market creates an inviting environment for creators and appreciators of art and design to interact, share and bridge the gap between the creative community and a wider audience. The market will showcase bold fashion designers, home decor, edgy fashion accessories, custom-made stationery and a selection of delicious goodies to indulge in your December cheat meals.
As Savanthi Weerakone, founder of creative brand Shoelace Studio shares: “Over the years the market has continued to support us. CDM is a curated market of creatives with unique ideas and products and the team has continuously improved the vendor experience from location space to partnering with different initiatives which in turn has increased our customer reach.”
The CDM Live Art Canvas invites you to get creative alongside local and international artists, with conversation couches, light-play domes, giant bubble wands and life-size Twister mats making sure there’s something for everyone! Unwind and bring your weekend to a close with original tunes by upcoming musicians Kasun, Nikhil D’Almeida and Shaaranya followed by an Open Mic throughout the night.
