Conserving the gypsy identity

The Ahikuntika people from around Sri Lanka gathered on the banks of the Rajanganaya tank in Kudagama on 28 January 2011 after a lapse of over 60 years in an attempt to help preserve their lifestyle for the future.

This was the first ever tribal meeting or “Varigasabha” held among the gypsy community in the country after their last leader Muttusamiarachchi held it in 1942.
