YOUNG women from all parts of the country will compete for the crown with an opportunity to grow personally and professionally; by cultivating career goals, serving as a spokeswoman representing the cream of young Sri Lankan women and to be an ambassador of our country while working with various organizations devoted to worthy causes.
Veet is once again proud to be the main sponsor of the event for the fourth year, which showcases the talents, cultural heritage, values and the inner and outer beauty of young Sri Lankan women. “The selected contestants were given a great opportunity to mingle with specialists in different areas of beauty and personal development, grooming techniques, develop their personalities, and improve their leadership and teamwork skills and to experience a host of other invaluable exposure that would leave a lasting impression on their lives” noted Assistant Brand Manager of Veet Chrishankar Janathanan.
In the preliminary stage there were forty candidates, and the selected contestants were trained over a period of two and a half months in various areas of beauty and grooming. The pageant took off with the roll call for the twelve mini pageants, some of which were for Miss Veet Smoothest Skin, Miss Beautiful Skin, Miss Veet Top Model and Miss Talent. The contestants were judged for their posture, smile and presentation in their personal interviews, which accounted for 60% of their points. The balance 40% of the points was allocated for the evening gown segment.
“It was rewarding and fun to get to know the girls and support them as they worked so hard to achieve their goals”, says Nayana Karunaratne, Founder President of SLAHAB and Beauty Consultant and Brand Representative for Veet, who also conducts personal grooming programmes for university students and the staff of distinct organizations in collaboration with Veet.
Gamya Wijedasa winner of Miss Sri Lanka 2009 noted “the pageant gives all the contestants the opening to experience a host of related skills, personal development and deportment in a glamorous environment while enjoying the time spent together”. She is the brand representative for Veet and is busy with work schedules in Bollywood. The managing director of Reckitt Benckiser, Rahul Murgai committed that Veet will continue to groom the Sri Lankan talent and since confidence goes hand in hand with beauty, Veet will continue programmes in keeping with the theme of its tagline – “What beauty feels like” The event will be telecast on Friday the 27 May 2011.
