Drive to India in your car

Sri Lankan’s can now drive in style in their own vehicle to India with the newly launched “Drive in-Drive Out” facility on “Scotia Prince”, Sri Lanka’s first international passenger ferry service from Flemingo Liners.

Bringing an entirely new dimension to the travel and tourism industry, this facility will enable tourists to take their vehicles with them onboard the ferry and drive it around at the destination. The first passengers to avail this facility on board the Scotia Prince were two Australians who used this to travel from India to Sri Lanka.  They had obtained the certificate from the Australian Automobile Association.

Commenting on this Flemingo Liners CEO P.K Thimmayya, noted “This is an exciting new feature for both Sri Lankan and Indian travellers wishing to use their own vehicles across the border. We are happy to add a new dimension in the travel itinerary and are hopeful that this will open up an entirely new category of clientele who will like to travel in their own car into India and vice versa. The vehicles will be checked inside the ship as a registered baggage which the passenger can claim on reaching the destination.”

Passengers requiring this service need to obtain the “Carnet de Passage” document from the Automobile Association of Ceylon (www.aaceylon.lk).This document is valid for a period of six months. The cost for obtaining this document from the Automobile Association of Ceylon is LKR 6600 (excluding taxes).

This facility promises to boost tourism between India and Sri Lanka. With more people trying to venture into newer options of spending their vacations, Flemingo Liners will give these tourists their much awaited international holidaying experience through this unique service.
