The first phase of the ‘Malaka Mahima’ programme, an initiative to create awareness on the export of Anthuriums was launched recently in Gampaha and a gathering of over 300 people interested in this very important subject attended the programme.

The event was organized by the Mahima Plant Nursery in Arndiambalama and was held with the sole purpose of raising awareness on Anthurium flowers and plants amongst Sri Lankans. Under the patronage of Deshashakthi Yamika Gunawardhane who was recently awarded the MAAS Lanka Prime Minister Award 2011 for her continuous efforts in promoting Anthuriums in Sri Lanka, the event proved to be a great success.

While addressing the gathering, Gunawardhane explained the importance of growing Anthriums in Sri Lanka as well as detailing the ample opportunities available in the export market which ultimately could become a foreign exchange revenue earner.  Former Minister Hemakumara Nanayakkkara, Unipower (Pvt) Ltd. Techno Commercial Manager Rohitha Dabarera and Unipower (Pvt) Ltd. Chairman Jayantha Rajapakshe who sponsored the event also delivered speeches.

A fellowship and a lunch followed the event.
