The day after Christmas is usually spent in a more relaxed manner than on Christmas Day as the Feast of St. Stephen is mainly observed by the United Kingdom, Canadians, and many other Commonwealth nations but now the world celebrates the day by continuing to rejoice with family and friends with a feast to celebrate the season in a relaxed manner.

Despite its name, Boxing Day, which is celebrated on December 26th, it has nothing to do with pugilistic competition. Nor is it a day for people to return unwanted Christmas presents. Yet the exact origins of the holiday date back to the middle of the 19th century under Queen Victoria where boxes of food, fruit, clothing and money were given to trades people as a gesture of gratitude, hence the boxes surfaced the name ‘Boxing Day’.

“At MLH, the focus always is to exalt traditions that are celebrated across the world, and a feast for all with gospel and jazz is our style of celebrating Boxing Day in a more relaxed manner at the Terrace,” stated Anura Dewapura, General Manager MLH.

A feast for Rs. 2,900 nett with traditional Christmas fare from UK, Canada and other Commonwealth nations will be included in the feast such as British apple pie, classic British Christmas cake, lemon posset, orange and cranberry pancakes, pistachio-crusted ham, mince pies, kedgeree, stilton and walnut salad, Christmas cherry soufflé, turkey thighs with apricot stuffing, baked gammon with christmas pickle, Christmas mess (cranberry, chestnuts, and meringue concoction), country ham with red eye gravy, are a few. Along with Nuovo Vita and Eshantha, the Asia Pacific Jazz Ensemble will enlighten the brunch as well.

Throughout the Christmas season, MLH focused on epitomising iconic traditions, beginning with Thanksgiving and lighting of the tallest tree soon after, and recently St. Lucia’s Day celebrations alive with an array of choirs, Voice Print who began the season with great hype, Coro Cant Amici adding the voices of youth throughout the season and not forgetting the traditional food and beverages that bring out the best of the season.
