Four times the Swiss: Good food, music, cheese and wine at MLH

Swiss people do not only love good food, the music, wine and indeed the cheeses are considered an everlasting experience. The Embassy of Switzerland in collaboration with the Mount Lavinia Hotel will now promote “The taste of Switzerland”. Seven days of regional influenced cuisine especially from German, French, Romanisch and north Italian cuisine. Including some firm favourites that have crossed the borders and have become synonymous dishes to Switzerland like cheese fondue, original and authentic form of Raclette and not forgetting the Rosti, Switzerland’s popular white, but there are also good rosés and fragrant red wines and the ever famous Swiss Cheese are a few to whet your taste buds. The dates are from 29 July to 4 August, dinner only, at the Maitland State Room priced at Rs. 3000 nett. A large pot of Fondue only will be Rs. 2500 nett. The young and dynamic chefs hailing from the mountainous and lake regions of Switzerland respectively, Chef Buechi Alexander and Chef Simon Meier, who are natives of Switzerland will bring out the best in authentic Swiss cuisine. Beuchi who is at present the head chef at the extraordinary designed classic hotel, Hotel Seerose; known to be the pretty resort on the lake with a view of the Alps, will present Raclette in its authentic and original form and many other dishes synonymous to the German and Italian regions. Whilst Chef Simon who hails from the Meilen district’s unique Hotel Hirschen am See which overlooks Lake Zurich or the GoldKuste and a historical hotel in Meilen will present traditional Swiss-Romanisch dishes that are popular to the eastern region of the country and also the delicious French region dishes. To further enhance the enjoyment of the Swiss culinary specialties on offer, traditional folkloric musicians from Switzerland will be entertaining all. Swiss Örgelists and a Swiss Alphorn player will be amongst the musicians and these Swiss native musical instruments are considered a novelty in Sri Lanka. The musicians’ genre of music is loved by the young and older generations. And further their music style is distinct and emerges the genuineness of Switzerland to the whole evening. The Menu will consist of a raclet station with cornichons, boiled new potatoes and pickled pearl onions, cheese fondue with croutons and skewers sent to the table and bunder gerstensuppe, zurcher geschnetzeltes, luzerne art, pork neck walliser-style, gratin of chalet, chicken zurichoise, gallette des rois and toblerone mousse.
