From palanquins to articulated buses – A long journey

Kathawa dolaven – gamana payin is how a boaster is identified. “He talks as if he is going in a palanquin – yet he actually walks,” someone would say.

Palanquins are not seen today. But they had served as the mode of transport of the affluent Colombo residents in the early days of British administration.
