Glitteray had a unique launch online on 6 December 2013 on its official site www.glitteray.com.
Glitteray designer and proprietor Rayhana Iyne, a young self-taught jewellery designer is the second runner up of 2013’s Venture Engine Competition for young businessmen and women. She beat stiff competition to emerge among the top winners at the competition and win funding for her business. Rayhana began designing jewellery at the age of 19 and has continued to take her business from strength to strength.
Aged 26 years now; Rayhana has come a far way creating a fun and exclusive brand appealing to a cross section of women, locally and internationally. A past student of Harrow International College in Colombo, her love for everything handmade led her down the path to creating handmade jewellery that appealed to a cross section of local and international women. An only child, Rayhana is a fun loving person with a go getter attitude.
Creating silver jewellery embellished with semi-precious stones predominantly, Glitteray offers five limited edition collections; namely Simplistic, Modernistic, Skylines, Glitteray Signature and Futuristic – all designed by Rayhana. She sources the materials and then works with Sri Lankan craftsmen and then hand makes all the pieces. Her love for everything handmade has inspired her work and attention to detail in her work.
Speaking further about the launch, Rayhana says, “Glitteray will be introducing the ‘try it at home’ service where customers can reserve items online and our Customer Service Representative will visit the customer in the convenience of their home or office; and let the customer try on the item. The customer will be given the option to purchase it or not. Additionally we will also introduce a ‘Guest Designer’ service on the site which allows users to submit their designs to us. If we select their designs for use, we will pay them a royalty on pieces sold plus feature them on our website.”
Rayhana further adds, “Glitteray’s core value is to bring together designers and artisans and create jewellery that can stand out for its heritage, craftsmanship and design. We are single-handedly changing the way jewellery is discovered, crafted and delivered across the globe by empowering designers and artisans. We are cutting out absurd retail store mark ups and boring catalog designs and instead giving our clients what they really want. We want to inspire them and make them dream. Glitteray is Sri Lanka’s first online jewellery store. My collections have been inspired by various elements in my life. Being online our prices are competitive because of the low overheads and our jewellery is superior in quality. All our collections are limited edition and will not have more than 5-10 pieces reproduced. We aim to give a personalised experience and service to our clients.”
