Being a health conscious person, it was a challenge for Kiru to find good quality, healthy baked products in Colombo. Blessed with a gift to whip out delicious goodies, she then embarked on a journey to bake low fat, low or no sugar, eggless, whole meal and bran yummies. The results are what we see under her ‘Guilt Free’ brand today.
“I was also told by my customers they would be very happy to have my ‘Heavenly Chocolate’ every day and not be guilty about their calories,” she said. “This prompted me expand these product range further.” From this came the range of low fat and low calorie cakes and muffins.
Contrary to general belief that low fat or low sugar products cannot be compared to its typical version in taste, Kiru proves them otherwise with a range that is healthy and suitable for all age groups with no taste difference between the two.
Under her Guilt Free brand she offers sugar free Christmas cake (“with no artificial products,” she added), Christmas pudding, cheese cake, Yule log, eggless chocolate peanut among others. The gluten free Christmas cake is made using maze flour. “I do not use oil or butter in making the fat-free Yule log. It is purely a sponge cake with not even egg yolk added.” She is also famous for her vegan black forest cake.
Low fat Carrot and Walnut cake with cream cheese (this has been hero), Sugar free date cake made out of natural low sugar substitute such as honey, Eggless chocolate with strawberries, Gluten free almond fruit and nut cake, Sugar free, Fat free spongy cake with passion fruit cream and strawberries and Kurakkan Brownies are also part of the menu. “My theme is healthy and yummy, and I will stick by it.”
