Untitled-1Hemas Hospitals, a market leader in healthcare, obtained the highly esteemed Australian Council of Healthcare Standards International (ACHSI) for their Thalawathugoda Hospital. The gold standard in healthcare confirms the hospital’s outstanding clinical outcomes as well as its commitment to maintaining high quality patient care through stringent adherence to processes and controls, on par with international standards, from the moment the patient enters hospital and until discharged. With this accreditation, all Hemas Hospitals are now internationally accredited with the Wattala and Galle ones being re-accredited after the four year cycle.

The top honour recognition is significant on two counts – first it reflects the hospital as being ‘best in class’; secondly, as Hemas Hospital Thalawathugoda is just over two years in operation and already in the spotlight for their advanced healthcare, uncompromising compliance to accredited processes and patient safety. Hemas Hospitals are the only multi-chain in Sri Lanka to have an international accreditation with ACHSI.

Hemas Hospitals Thalawathugoda Director/General Manager Dr. Chamila Ariyananda said that the prestigious accreditation confers an extra level of distinction to the overall standards. “Patient safety and trust is at the core of our mission – which got us the accreditation with the world recognised and celebrated body. We are committed to patient safety at every level. ACHSI underscores our affirmation in providing the highest quality care to the patients.”

The globally recognised standard evaluates excellence at every touch point of services, starting with admission at reception to clinical, examination, diagnosis and medical care by the entire team from consultants to nurses. The tough audit and stringent accreditation assures safety and performance, encompassing products, people, facilities and supply chains through verification, assessment, training and services to create superior stakeholder and customer trust.

“As a member of ACHSI, we have a commitment to patient care and service delivery and recognise the need for continuing quality improvement,” explained Dr. Ariyananda who went on to note that commitment to benchmarking with and maintaining international standards of clinical management and clinical governance have provided many tangible benefits to patients and  staff.

The principles upon which the ACHSI programs are developed reflect the characteristics displayed by an ‘improving organisation’ including consumer focus, effective leadership, continuous improvement, evidence of outcome and striving for best practice.
