If afternoon tea in town conjures up images of fine bone china and dry scones, then think again. Indian afternoon tea offered at the Taj Samudra’s ‘Khao Galli’ promotion is a rich and fragrant affair giving guests the chance to sample some of the most delicious cuisine. The menu comprises Indian street food and a choice of masala infused Chai tea or Chaas – a buttermilk preparation.
Diners can indulge in Indian street foods such as Pao Bhadji to Paprei Chaat, sweet Golgappe and much more. Teas come from the traditional menus of Darjeeling, Ceylon and Jasmine, but for a chilled beverage option Chaas, is the way forward. Afternoon tea lovers can also opt for an indulgent Indian desert too, like Pineapple keshari halwa – a caramelised pineapple cooked with semolina to a smooth succulent texture.
If you haven’t sat for Indian high tea before, it’s about time you do. There’s not a lot more pleasant than sipping a chilli chai and nibbling on typical sweet and savoury snacks like mutton samosa and chicken Pakoras in the afternoon. Sit back and enjoy a spectacular Colombo sunset by the pool, while the specialty chefs from New Delhi whip you up the best comfort foods there ever was. Menu items priced at Rs. 250 and upwards.
This promotion is on till 25 March. If you would like to book a table for Indian afternoon tea at Taj Samudra, call 2446622 for more information.
