‘Must be Looking for a Bride, No?’ is yet another rib-tickling new comedy from Indu Dharmasena. The play is scheduled to be staged at the Lionel Wendt on 29, 30 and 31 August at 7:30 p.m. The 29 Friday performance is presented by the St. Anthony’s Girls College – Kandy, Old Girls Association - Colombo branch. The 30 Saturday performance is presented by the Kingswood Union – Colombo branch. Revantha Kahawatta comes down to Sri Lanka after 20 years. When he is told by his cousin Priyantha to expect the famous Sri Lankan hospitality to overflow as he is an eligible bachelor he thinks his cousin is exaggerating. But then arrive the Hadadeniyas and the Gonagodas. Nirmal Hadadeniya is not very happy about his unmarried sister-in-law living under their roof. So his wife Milanka is looking for a husband for her sister Tilanka. Yamuna and Cyril Gonagoda have made their money and now want their only child Raya to marry into a good family hoping that will elevate their family status. When the two parties realise they are there for the same reason, the fun begins. They start plotting and planning to get rid of the competition. But who will succeed? Who will be the lucky bride? And who is Raymond? Is he the electrician or a burglar? Indu Dharmasena plays the role of Revantha Kahawatta. George Cooke is back in Sri Lanka and back in the cast and is playing Revantha’s cousin Priyantha. Milanka Hadadeniya who is desperately trying to find a husband for her sister is played by Sanwada Dharmasena. The stubborn and head strong sister Tilanka is brought to life by Keshiya Leitch. Dr. Chithranga Kariyawasan who has acted in more than 20 of Indu’s plays (this being the 61st play written, produced and directed by him) plays the seemingly submissive Yamuna Gonagoda. Yasal Ruhunage who played very colourful roles in Indu’s last few productions, this time plays the rather loud and bumptious Cyril Gonagoda. Their spoilt and selfish daughter Raya Gonagoda is played by Senali Ranathunga who has been acting in Indu’s productions from last year. The newcomer to the group is Neshika De Silva playing Priyantha’s wife Ashanthi. Tickets available at the Wendt.
