The five-day festival, organised by the Iran Cultural Center in cooperation with the National Film Corporation will be opened with the film ‘Maritime Silk Road,’ directed by Muhammad Bozorgnia.
Minister for Media and Information Keheliya Rambukwela and Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr. Mohammed Nabi Hassanipour will be associated in inaugurating the film festival with the screening of the film ‘The Maritime Silk Road’ on 8 February at the Cinema Hall – National Film Corporation, Colombo 7, at 5 p.m.
Besides the opening film, four famous Iranian films ‘So Close, So Far,’ ‘As Simple As That,’ ‘Family Bond’ and ‘Every Night Loneliness’ will be screened during the festival, at the NFC-Cinema Hall, Colombo 7.
Iranian cinema is one of the most highly regarded national cinemas in the world, regularly winning festival awards and critical acclaim for which combine remarkable artistry and social relevance.
Film festivals that honour Iranian films are held annually around the globe. Many Iranian films have competed in international film festivals and several were awarded prestigious prizes.
This festival of Iranian films has been organised to afford and familiarise local film enthusiasts with the progress and development of Iranian films, beginning 8 February.
‘Discovering the Next Generation of Iranian Filmmakers’ is the theme of this year’s Festival of Iranian Films, which has evolved into a much-sought-after annual event by the film enthusiasts here and the world over. Five prominent works of world renowned Iranian directors are scheduled to be screened for the viewing pleasure of Sri Lankan film enthusiast, artists and cine-goers.
The Film Festival, which has been organised in commemoration of the 35th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, will continue until 12 February. The films are all sub-titled in English. Entrance is free.
