Keells Fun Lab: Inspiring children and cultivating talent

The inaugural session of the Keells Fun Lab (KFL) launched by Keells Food Products, took place at the Union Place Keells Super on 7 January 2011.

Over 100 children attended KFL and had the experience of a lifetime which allowed them to take the reins of their own creativity. While indulging in the very tasty Cheesy Blast and Power Snack hotdogs, the creative and interactive sessions took place with much enthusiasm and interest.

Ashanthi De Silva kicked off KFL with a dance session where she, with the help of her assistants, taught kids basic on-stage dance steps and sang songs with the children while instructing them on notes and tones. Having a blast singing away with Ashanthi, there were a few solo performances by kids bold enough to take on the stage.

Janaki started off the creative writing session with a draw and writing exercise where the kids were expected to draw pictures according to the story-line that they had come up with at the session. This was a very interactive session were the kids enjoyed generating story lines using their vivid imaginations. The most anticipated session of KFL where kids were allowed to experiment with cooking was headed by Chef Tony Bohran. A competition adjudging the best created hotdogs, burgers and food décor took place with the winning team receiving amazing prizes. Chef Tony also had cookery demonstrations for the mothers present at the event, on innovative and delicious ways of preparing delicious snacks using Cheesy Blast and Power Snack Sausages.

Sarath Kavirathne took on the art wall with the kids and showed them colouring techniques, while allowing them to explore with the colour material and enjoy themselves to their hearts content.

The Keells Fun Lab was everything it promised to be; fun, exciting and most importantly inspiring. It acted as a platform for kids to open to the arts and enjoy themselves while experiencing alternate ways of creativity and expanding horizons.
