‘Keeping Up with the Pereras,’ the latest play by veteran playwright Indu Dharmasena, kicked off last evening at the Lionel Wendt theatre and will continue tonight and tomorrow.
‘Keeping up with Pereras’ revolves around Dulanthi and Ramesh Fernando, a well-to-do young couple, who move into a house next door to the Pereras. Dulanthi’s obsession of ‘keeping up’ with her neighbour Apeksha Perera’s extravagant life drives the plot. The play also delves into the hilarious complications of living in a neighbourhood full of curious and nosy neighbours who blow everything out of proportion with their gossip.
The play stars Sanwada Dharmasena as Dulanthi Fernando, Indu Dharmasena as her husband Ramesh Fernando, Sashini Wakwella as Cassilda Silva, Ruwendi Wakwella as Menik Mendis, Yasal Ruhunage as Charlie Fernando, Lanka Wijesena as Apeksha Perera, Anushan Selvarajah as Kapila and Kehara Edirisinghe as Ariya Perera.
The show on 6 and 7 May is presented by the Kingswood Union Colombo Union in aid of school projects. The show on 8 May is presented by the National Council for Mental Health.
Tickets are available a Lionel Wendt and range from Rs. 500 to Rs. 3,000.
