Exams have ended and schools have closed! The crazy task of keeping your children occupied this holiday has dawned upon you. If you are looking for ways to keep your young ones active and creative this holiday the Trekurious Children’s Holiday Program is for you! Designed specifically to keep your kids productive, having fun and immersed in what they love, you are guaranteed a well-deserved break this holiday. Islander Escape with Eco-V (8 to 18 years) Held from 15 to 17 August, the Islander Escape – three day holiday camp for children is a magnificent getaway to a peaceful and beautiful organic farm in Anuradhapura. Your children will be encouraged to re-connect with nature as they leave their phones, iPads, computers and other electronic devices to take a walk through lush green paddy fields surrounded by ponds and bright pink water lilies. Hosted by Kanchana Weerakoon, a conservation biologist and founder of Eco-Friendly Volunteers (ECO-V), Kanchana also hosts the popular Nature Kids program at the Good Market, which she started after being inspired by the book ‘Last Child in the Woods.’ Islander Escape will begin with a train ride to Anuradhapura after which they will be staying at the Islander Center where accommodation for boys and girls are segregated into two hostels midst a 125 acre farm. A well-experienced team of chaperones from ECO-V, the Islander Center and Trekurious will chaperone the weekend. The camp will be three days of fun-filled activities for your kids that include outdoor games, environmental arts and crafts, bird watching, wild walks, farm tours, environmental meditation, observational games and optional boat rides. In the evenings, kids will be spending their time singing campfire songs, and taking guided night walks and experiencing the sounds of nature. The camp will be the perfect way for your children to learn more about the biodiversity and ecosystem functions, climate change, mindful consumption, zero waste, organic farming and food, and simple things they can do to make a difference. Kids Aloud! Immersive theatre experience (9-12 years and 13-15 years) Does your kid dream of taking the stage one day, or being a part of producing a fantastic play?  The Kids Aloud! Theatre Experience gives your kids an interactive and exciting holiday program where they will spend five days completely immersed in the magic of stage guided by one of Sri Lanka’s leading immersive theatre professionals – Floating Space. This will be the perfect chance for your kids to learn what theatre is all about. The experience will lead up to a real stage experience, exploring the magic of drama, while acquiring performance technique and skill. Held from 22-26 August at the Punchi Theatre in Borella, the two-hour workshops will aim at teaching the participants the fundamentals of using voice and body as a tool for performance. They will learn the art of storytelling with partners and then with large groups. They will be taught how to use masks to show character or use make-up to make themselves old, and also teach they their way around a real stage. It all ends with them taking a bow at the end of their very own performance. Get your kids to do something different this August holiday, and enrol them in one of these exciting programs.
