The city of London is set to stage the 2012 Olympic Games, the biggest sporting event in the world and the attention of the global audience is on this vibrant global city. In the run up to the Olympic Games, Sri Lankans young and old have a renewed interest and curiosity in the city of London.

This exhibition of photographs, featuring different facets of London, coincides with this landmark event, and aims to bring a little glimpse of London into the heart of Colombo. It is not just a collection of photographs but is accompanied with engaging content for audiences to read and deliberate on. Through interesting and thought-provoking narratives, the images serve as an entry point into understanding the broader socio-economic –cultural context of this continually evolving global city.

The photographer, Anushka Wijesinha, spent over four years in the UK, much of it in London. While studying economics at University College London (UCL) he fell in love with the city – its diverse people, its cultural richness, its architecture, food, festivals, and most of all – its vibrancy and ‘buzz.’ Anushka has since returned to Sri Lanka and works as an economist in the country’s premier policy think-tank. Anushka is also the alumni representative for UCL in Sri Lanka.
