The senior students of Elizabeth Moir School have recreated the paintings of ‘old masters’, through the eyes of the modern world. Using different media and colour palettes, and drawing on their diverse backgrounds, the budding artists have combined their appreciation for the history of art with their own brand of originality and flair. The result is the ‘newest old look’, bringing back the classics with hash tags.
“This year we have some fantastic work displayed, and since the inter-house art competition is also held simultaneously, all our high-achieving art students have come together to compete with each other creating healthy competition yet promoting team spirit among everyone,” explained Art Teacher Aruni Wijegunawardene “Whilst the appreciation of art is subjective, I am absolutely certain that viewers will be bowled over by the originality and openness of expression on show.”
The chief guests at the event will be the history making mountaineering duo Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala and Johann Peiris.
#MODERNMASTERS will be open to the public on Sunday 2 October, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Warehouse D, Park Street Mews.
