UZ Arts in association with Colomboscope presented ‘Moving Out,’ comprising performances and installations created in residency at the Sura Medura Residency Centre Hikkaduwa.
The performing arts festival staged art and performance in the jungle, on the beach, at sea, in the villages, in the city, in the clubs and on the street in selected locations of Narigama, Hikkaduwa and Colombo.
While the main festival took place in Hikkaduwa from 30 January-1 February and in Colombo from 6-8 February, workshops and presentations were carried out at the Faculty of Visual Arts and performances of Colombo University and Sun Beach in Hikkaduwa starting from 5 January.
UZ Arts’ innovative international program of theatre and performance saw directors and artists from six European countries come to the Sura Medura International Residency Centre Sri Lanka to work with Sri Lankan performers and created six new ground breaking shows.
The shows were developed through residencies, which took place at Sura Medura in the winter of 2014/2015. The Directors got the opportunity to explore and develop new work for Sri Lanka and international touring, with the 2015 program set to explore current developments in art in public space in collaboration with the local artistic and wider communities.
The program was created with the support of In Situ and their Europeans Abroad fund, EUNIC Sri Lanka, the University of Visual and Performing Arts Colombo and The Danish Art Foundation.
Team Moving Out is grateful to all their sponsors who supported them in numerous ways and would like to especially extend their thanks to Sun Beach Hotel Hikkaduwa, Wijeya Newspapers Ltd., MTV/MBC Broadcasting Corporation, Yamu.lk, Santore’ Bistro Italiano, Goethe Institute, British Council, Yamaha Music Centre, Buckman Audio, and the people from Dodanduwa, Hikkaduwa, Narigama and Colombo.
