‘Open Mic Competitive Poetry Slam - Season XIV’ on Thursday

The US Embassy Colombo is pleased to announce the ‘Open Mic Competitive Poetry Slam – Season XIV’ to be held on Thursday, 21 November at the American Centre auditorium at No. 44, Galle Road, Colombo 03.
The event will have two sessions with session 1 for participants of age 12 and below starting at 3 p.m. and session 2 for participants age 13 and above starting at 4 p.m. All winners and runners-up for the ‘Audience Choice’ are entitled to free lifetime membership at the American Centre Library in Colombo and the American Corners in Kandy and Jaffna.
Listed below are the ground rules to compete in the event;
All ages may participate and can read in any local language (English/Sinhala/Tamil);
There is no censorship. It is recommended that writers regulate themselves and avoid excessive violence, sexually explicit content and/or language that is degrading to any group of people;
It is a poetry slam, poets may stomp their feet, sing, dance, drum on themselves, whatever, but they may not (a) play an instrument, or (b) use recorded music. They may do anything with their bodies that they please, but nothing else;
All work must be original.
