The sacred tooth relic of the Buddha which is believed to have been brought to Sri Lanka by Prince Dantha and Princess Hemamala from India during the reign of King Keerthi Sri Meghawarna(301—328 AD) had soon become a personal property of the King and a symbolic component of the sovereign’s rule in Sri Lanka.
