Phoenix Ogilvy, a premier advertising agency in Sri Lanka embarked on a green initiative a year ago to reiterate its commitment to environmental protection by introducing many initiatives within its operations to ‘save the environment’. As the world draws closer to celebrating ‘Earth Hour’, the ‘Green Team’ at Ogilvy culminated a year’s efforts by planting 24 indigenous trees at the Nayakakanda Convent in Wattala.

All Ogilvy disciplines including Advertising, Ogilvy Action, Ogilvy Media, Ogilvy Public Relations and digital arm Neo@Ogilvy worked in unison through various energy saving initiatives and a strict waste paper recycling policy to reduce the company’s carbon footprint. The Ogilvy family through a period of one year contributed to saving 24 trees, and to signify this effort, initiated the planting of saplings at the school grounds on Wednesday.

Phoenix Ogilvy Chairman, Irvin Weerackody commenting on the occasion stated   “It is with great pleasure that we involve ourselves in contributing to the environment. Propelling the Ogilvy Earth foundation across the region, sustainability has become the growth opportunity of the 21st century as corporates align revenue goals with green initiatives to create organisations that serve all stakeholder interests.”

He further added, “The commitment of each employee is reflected through responsible consumption of resources. We have also engaged many of our business partners and schools in carrying out such initiatives and hope to grow as one family in sustaining the environment.  As we work towards further reducing our carbon footprint, I encourage all to join the race against environmental deterioration.”

The Ogilvy Green Initiative is an ambitious mandate set by the Ogilvy Regional Leadership to nurture environmental goals within the Ogilvy network. Under this initiative, all Ogilvy offices are required to change current consumption levels on a business level to save the environment. A comprehensive report quantifying the contribution made by each office in the region will collectively confirm the Ogilvy commitment towards a sphere of ‘green’ change.
