Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage earns Rs. 13.3 m in first week of January

The Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage has earned Rs. 13.3 million during the first week of January 2012.

Rs. 12,927,000 was earned from foreign visitors and Rs. 459,030 was earned from local visitors. A total of 7,527 foreign visitors and 5,179 local visitors visited the orphanage respectively during this period. The total number of foreign and local people was 12,706. Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa initiated many development projects to develop the orphanage last year, including building internal road networks, water facilities and a modern toilet complex.

A feeding place for elephants and rest room for workers at the orphanage will be constructed this year. A total of 2,438,541 foreign and local people visited Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, which earned Rs. 487 million last year.
