Alzheimer disease is a growing scourge in Sri Lanka. Current estimates put the number at around 120 000 but as one of the world’s fastest aging populations the number is set to hit as high as 500 000 by the year 2050 when one third of Sri Lanka’s people can be classified as elders. Despite this danger there has been little attention paid to the disease until Lorraine Tamitegama founded the Sri Lanka Alzheimer’s Foundation (SLAF).
