Amidst the celebrations of Christmas and the dawn of the New Year, Mount Lavinia Hotel did not fail to kindle the true spirit of the season in sharing with the less fortunate and spreading the joy to the most deserved.
As they have continued to do for more than 15 years, the management and staff of Mount Lavinia hotel hosted over 50 children from the neighbouring fishing village and Mihindu Pre-school for a Christmas party.
The Mihindu Pre-school was founded by the hotel with the initiation of Chairman Sanath Ukwatte in 1983 as a social responsibility project with the aim to provide a stable stepping stone for the children in the neighbouring fishing village.
At present the school houses 24 children, who are mostly from the fishing village near the hotel. The children enjoyed a magic show and were treated to snacks and sweets at the beach. They were also presented with school bags and stationary for the new school year.
Not stopping there, Mount Lavinia Hotel also contributed to the annual Christmas Carol Service for less fortunate children and victims of Down syndrome organised by The Jesus Centre Ministries, with the guidance of Pastor Rohan Fernando and Sister Marjie Fernando. As in the past several years, Mount Lavinia Hotel became a part of this invaluable service by donating dinner packs to the 30 participants when the event was held on 14 December at the YMCA, Mount Lavinia.
Continuing to spread the spirit of giving, 50 children from Clarion Home and the SOS Children’s Village were able to experience the magic of Christmas at the hotel as they were hosted for a Christmas party with gifts from Santa, music to dance to and a wonderful Christmas dinner. They were also able to witness the Singing Christmas Tree at the Courtyard, which was truly a treat for the young souls.
“Christmas is not only the season for celebration, it is also the season for sharing,” stated Group General Manager for Mount Lavinia Hotel, Bazeer Cassim. “While spreading the joy of the season through a series of events at the hotel, we at Mount Lavinia have not forgotten those who are less fortunate among us. These children, especially deserve the chance to enjoy the season and it is our duty to give them a memorable Christmas and a promising New Year,” he added.
