Annual event by Cinnamon Nature Trails and Cinnamon Lodge
Cinnamon Nature Trails and Cinnamon Lodge launched their annual Summer Camp for kids this year based at the Cinnamon Lodge. A plethora of outdoor activities and a gala evening of fashion and dancing decorated the event along with games, Land Rover off road rally, radio controlled toys and a visit to the half-built elephant research station where the kids helped plastering a wall.
Day one saw the children going out on elephant safari with Cinnamon Nature Trails to Minneriya and camping out in tents. Perhaps the lighting of the camp fire and games around it was the highlight of this evening.
Second day began with a session of yoga, followed by the big outdoor event – Land Rover 4x4 challenge. The instructors from Land Rover briefed the kids on basic techniques, winching and the art of driving through mud with a scintillating display of off-roading. The kids and the teens had a field day getting in the mud, with some even face painting each other.
Camp facilitators Chitral, Harshana and Chandima ensured that they had the best of fun under controlled and safe environments. Post lunch was strenuous training by teams for the Bollywood dance competition at the evening camp party. The crew led by Shahima worked hard to have 54 children trained to dance this evening and the kids were excellent in their corporation.
A bit of pool time and it was yet another Summer Camp evening show, with the Cinnamon Lodge team putting up an elaborate dining arrangements on a setting that draws inspiration at Habarana.
The catwalk with 11 families followed by dancing acts, camp choir trained by Peumi and parents performing a surprise act for the kids went on till midnight with all having a great evening at the camp.
Sunday began with radio-controlled track races and cupcake icing competitions for the families. Miniature land rovers driven on a scaled track was great fun and the prize giving concluded a great camp at Cinnamon Lodge.
Kids and parents shared their thoughts with the crew, and mentioned that the experience being in Summer Camp was just amazing. Summer camp is about children making new friends, learning and sharing their experiences and being exposed to outdoors and having fun with discipline, a few comments by parents of a camp for themselves made the crew consider this request while all campers left the Cinnamon Lodge with unforgettable memories of this year’s event.
