Thinking of having healthy food with a different twist? Try the new Japanese cuisine at Skky Bar & Grill.
Skky Bar & Grill opened at the beginning of this year and is owned by Sheran De Fonseka, Shanuka De Fonseka and Natalie Jayasuriya. It is a place where entertainment, excellent cocktails and Japanese cuisine blend in perfectly to give you the right kind of dining experience and fun.
A unique style of dining with an interesting mishmash of old and new Japanese cuisines combined can be experienced at this sophisticated place. Nevertheless, the newly-introduced Japanese cuisine at Skky Bar & Grill is not the typical Japanese food you find around Colombo.
Jayasuriya revealed that Japanese food served at Skky Bar & Grill is referred to as the “new era of Japanese cuisine,” derived from all the traditional dishes and reworked by Head Chef Chamila Lakshitha. She also mentioned that before they introduced the Japanese cuisine, they had a temporary snack menu with the intention of changing it to the kind of Japanese cuisine not available in Sri Lanka.
Lakshitha has over 15 years of experience in the food industry, having worked overseas for most of this time. He has worked at some of the world’s most reputed restaurants like Nobu, Zuma and Cipriani’s before becoming a member of Skky Bar & Grill.
The signature dishes of Skky Bar & Grill Japanese cuisine were cucumber and wakame topped with tosazu sauce and the new sashimi beef; fine slices of beef drenched in traditional yuzu soy which is currently served only at Skky Bar & Grill.
However, the most liked and talked about sushi roll was the exceptionally delicious cheese maki that consists of a weird, but exciting combination: mango, avocado and cream cheese. They also offer more beautiful dishes such as tuna tataki salad, yakitori chicken/beef with teriyaki or wasabi sauce, chicken and pork tonkatsu set accompanied with a cabbage salad, just to name a few. Unlike other places, the Chef at Skky Bar & Grill specially makes the sauces without using the readymade products.
Located in the heart of Colombo, Skky Bar & Grill opens at 5 p.m. and continues till 1 a.m. It is the definite pre-party experience. They say the Skky is the limit, it sure is.
