Songstress Angeline Gunatilaka’s five decade journey reechoes with Munchee

Reechoing five decades of music, Munchee recently sponsored Angeline Gunatilaka’s Live in Concert held in a grand manner at the BMICH. Gunatilaka, as a playback singer has performed over 6,000 songs and among these the very first one was in 1958, for the film titled ‘Deviyange Rate’ (The Country of Gods), where with C.T. Fernando, she sang an ensemble of folk songs. Munchee engages in a wide range of Corporate Social Responsibility programs. Among the objectives of hosting an event of this nature was to delight their connoisseur consumers, increase artistic appreciation among Sri Lanka society and to recognise a talented star. Annually, several gala performances such as this are carried out by the organisation under its social responsibility campaigns. The ‘Keerthi Acoustica’ Concert held last year was another concert sponsored by Munchee as part of its endeavours. Munchee has also undertaken the task of sponsoring the telecast of the ‘Angeline Live in Concert’ which will be televised via the Rupavahini channel on 13 September 9:30 p.m. The show was held in honour of her service and contribution to Sri Lanka cinema as a very popular playback singer with Munchee presenting the songstress with a special plaque. A momentous occasion at the concert was when Ceylon Biscuits Limited Group Director and Head of Marketing and Sales Nandana Wickramage honoured the songstress on behalf of Munchee for her artistic devotion of over five decades. Commenting on Munchee’s sponsorship of this concert, Wickramage Group Director and Head of Marketing and Sales stated, “As Sri Lanka’s largest food and confectionary conglomerate, we continuously aim to do our utmost to serve society. In order to carry out this role and conduct our social reasonability campaigns in a clear and organised manner, we have identified several areas and to-date we have successfully and skillfully completed several of these projects. Also through our social reasonability campaigns we have been able to help popular Sri Lankan artists by creating awareness in our society by bringing back rarely sung music.” First Lady Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa together with a host of artistes including a large number of Gunatilaka’s fans were also present to listen to her perform. “During my music career spanning five decades I have been fortunate to have been the recipient of numerous awards. I believe all I have received is due to the work and plan according to Lord Jesus. I value today’s felicitation by Munchee as being one on par with other awards I have received throughout my career. Together with my fans, I thank the directors of CBL who came forward to bring back the golden songs of yesteryear,” said Goonethilaka with a joyful voice. Munchee’s corporate social responsibility initiative has won several awards including winning Gold for the CSR Brand of the Year at the SLIM Awards 2013. Munchee is engaged in a wide range of social responsibility campaigns in sectors including culture, sports and arts contributing towards uplifting the community affecting the lives of thousands of Sri Lankans.
