It was 10 years ago in 2004, when 20 girls just out of school, and their Choir Director realised that they shared one passion, one love: music. Wanting to continue singing even after leaving school, they looked to their choir director for a solution. And thus saw the birth of Soul Sounds – a musical rollercoaster ride of a lifetime. Soul Sounds marked the transition from a school girl choir to an award winning all-female ensemble. Having toured across four continents and winning three Golds and two Silvers at consecutive World Choir Games (2006 and 2008), Soul Sounds has enthralled audiences around the world. Whilst not everyone has been able to stick around through the entire journey, with old faces leaving and new ones emerging, the memories shared over the years, binds them together still. Recalling with love the raucous laughter, hilarious bloopers, hysterical tantrums, heartache and trials, are what have made them stand stronger and united through the years. 2014 ushers in a significant milestone in the history of the choir which will celebrate 10 years of being together as a group. To mark this occasion, the choir will have a series of concerts covering many genres of music from Classical to Jazz, Pop to Gospel and Local Music amongst others. The first of these concerts will be Moods of Christmas which will be on 22 December at the Cinnamon Grand. This concert is significant because the new identity of Soul Sounds was launched at this inaugural Christmas concert at the (then) Colombo Plaza, on 18 December 2004. Following this will be a Gospel Concert with Prof. Mark Wilson on the 18 January 2014 at the Lionel Wendt Theatre.
